The security situation at Swargate bus stand and Jedhe Chowk in Pune has become a cause for concern in the wake of a recent rape case. Despite efforts to tighten security, illegal hand carts and food stalls continue to flout rules in the area.

Many people are openly consuming liquor in the vicinity, but the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has failed to take action against them. However, following the recent incident, the civic administration has finally cracked down on illegal stalls and seized gas cylinders and other materials.

The incident has sparked outrage across the state, shedding light on the lack of basic amenities at Swargate bus stand and exposing laxities in the functioning of the police and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). The presence of food stalls at busy Jedhe Chowk has further added to the chaos, with pedestrians being forced to walk on the road due to encroachment on footpaths.

Pedestrians are finding it increasingly difficult to navigate the area, with bus drivers struggling to spot them on the road. Encroachments have created hazardous conditions for commuters and pedestrians alike, with ganja and liquor addicts adding to the chaos by congregating below the flyover and on the roadside.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Avhad has vowed to take strict action against those encroaching beyond their authorized area and engaging in illegal activities. The Bibwewadi Ward Office has already conducted several raids to seize illegal structures and materials, in an effort to restore order to the area.

The ongoing encroachments at entry and exit points have further exacerbated the situation, with hand carts, stalls, and auto-rickshaws creating traffic snarls for MSRTC buses. Avhad emphasized the need for strict enforcement measures to ensure the safety and convenience of commuters and pedestrians in the area.
