Hey Pune folks, here’s some news that might affect your favorite watering holes! The State Excise Department has made it mandatory for all hotel owners to install CCTV cameras at the bar where alcohol is served. And get this – the live telecast will be available to police stations and superintendents of all State Excise Department divisions. Big Brother is definitely watching!

This rule applies to all hotels within a 10-km radius of the city, so no sneaky business will go unnoticed. The crackdown came after a hit-and-run incident in Kalyani Nagar revealed various violations in the sale of liquor. From selling alcohol without permission to serving minors, it seems like some establishments were taking advantage of the lack of monitoring.

To combat this, the State Excise Department has ordered two bullet-proof CCTV cameras to be installed at bar counters of all hotels, pubs, and restaurants within the city and its periphery. These cameras must have a back-up facility and a special AI software to analyze the footage. Plus, there should be a mechanism to report violations to the police and Excise Department, and State Excise officials will be checking in regularly to ensure compliance.

So, if you’re a hotel owner in Pune, better get those CCTV cameras up and running within 15 days or face the consequences. And for all you patrons out there, just remember – you’re always on camera now when you’re enjoying a drink at the bar!
