In a bid to enhance student safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a proactive step by deciding to deploy women security guards in PMPML buses that cater to municipal school students. This decision comes in the aftermath of a recent sexual assault incident at the Swargate ST bus stand, highlighting the need for increased security measures during transit.
While school buses from private institutions already have female assistants on board, PMPML buses serving municipal school students have been lacking similar security protocols. The PMC, in collaboration with the Education Department, is now working towards appointing women security guards in approximately 200 to 300 buses used for student transportation.
Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B. P. emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of students during their daily commute. With this new initiative, authorities are optimistic about creating a safer travel environment for school children and addressing the concerns raised by the recent incident at Swargate.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the PMC continues to prioritize student safety in Pune’s public transportation system.
