Pune is all set to witness the construction of a magnificent 60-foot bronze statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, thanks to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s decision to re-approve a budget of ₹7.60 crore for the project. The memorial, to be located at Chandani Chowk near Bavdhan, will serve as a grand tribute to the legendary Maratha king.

The upgraded statue, towering at 60 feet and placed on a 30-foot-high platform, marks a significant enhancement from the original plan. The memorial’s strategic location at a key intersection near major roads leading to Warje, Mulshi, Kothrud, and the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway’s service road ensures high visibility and easy access for the public.

In addition to the impressive statue, the memorial will feature design elements such as stone-clad gates, lotus-shaped fountains, and landscaped gardens, creating a grand and inviting space for visitors to explore. Pathways made of yellow and red stones, a secondary entrance for improved access, and boundary walls for protection and definition of space are among the additional features planned for the project.

The decision to increase the budget from ₹6.56 crore to ₹7.60 crore was influenced by the requests of regional groups and supported by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Muralidhar Mohol. This move highlights the community’s strong support for honoring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and enhancing Pune’s cultural landmarks.

The construction of this grand memorial is expected to not only serve as a tribute to the legendary king but also become a symbol of pride for the Maratha community and all residents of Pune. It is a significant step towards preserving history and enriching the city’s cultural heritage for generations to come.
