Hey Punekars! Get ready for some exciting news ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections. Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase has announced that a whopping 117 polling stations will be set up within cooperative housing societies, a massive increase from the previous 35 stations during the Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission of India is pushing for polling stations in housing societies to combat urban voter apathy, and Pune district, with its record number of voters, is leading the way. With around 84 lakh registered voters, it’s no wonder they’re trying to make voting more convenient.

But here’s the kicker – despite efforts to boost voter turnout by setting up polling booths in housing societies, only about 30% of them participated in the Lok Sabha elections. It’s time to change that, folks!

With over 4 lakh new voter registrations, the election department is planning to establish 242 additional polling stations and relocate the locations of 460 others. Collector Diwase is on top of things, directing election officials to inform voters of the new polling station locations through booth-level officers.

So, Punekars, make sure you verify your registration and check that your name is on the list by August 16. Let’s make sure every vote counts in the upcoming assembly elections!
