Hey Pune peeps, get ready for some exciting news on the transportation front! The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has some big plans in store to expand the city’s public transportation network.
First up, we’re talking electric buses – but not just any old buses, we’re talking double-articulated electric buses running on dedicated elevated corridors. These bad boys will be cruising from Shivajinagar to Alandi and Wakad to Shewalwadi (via Katraj), covering a whopping 63 kilometres. It’s all about high capacity and eco-friendliness, folks.
But wait, there’s more! PMRDA is also rolling out three new metro lines to make getting around Pune even easier. Picture this: a metro line from Pune District Court to Yewalewadi, another from Savitribai Phule Pune University to Dehu Road, and a third from Kharadi to Khadakwasla (via Manik Baug-SNDT-Warje). That’s a total of 148 kilometres of new metro network coming your way.
And let’s not forget about the neo-metro or electric bus routes – a cool 128 kilometres of them, to be exact. These routes will connect the High-Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) with key areas in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune Municipal Corporation jurisdictions.
Construction is already underway on three metro routes spanning 33.5 kilometres, including the Hinjawadi to Pune District Court line. And rumor has it that a Nigdi to Chakan metro corridor is also in the works by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro).
So, buckle up Pune, because your commute is about to get a whole lot smoother and greener!
