The Maharashtra government is stepping up its game when it comes to maintaining CCTV cameras in Pune. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that a formal policy will be introduced within a month to address concerns raised by Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole.
One of the major issues at hand is the lack of clarity on who should be responsible for maintaining these cameras. Fadnavis mentioned that a decision will soon be made on whether the police department, municipal corporation, or another agency will oversee the maintenance process.
Currently, Pune has around 10,000 surveillance cameras installed by various government bodies, but a large number of these cameras are not functioning properly. This has raised serious security concerns in the city.
MLA Shirole has proposed the installation of an additional 10,000 cameras and the integration of artificial intelligence into the surveillance systems. This move could greatly improve real-time monitoring and help prevent crimes and manage traffic more effectively.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Yogesh Kadam has assured that the government is working on a standard operating procedure for CCTV installation and maintenance. Pune will soon be equipped with AI-enabled cameras to enhance surveillance capabilities.
With these new policies and technologies in place, Pune’s security infrastructure is set to become more efficient, proactive, and technologically advanced. The government’s commitment to improving surveillance in the city is a step in the right direction for ensuring public safety.
