Pune commuters have been facing major traffic congestion in various areas of the city for the past few days. Potholes have emerged on many major roads after heavy rains, causing snarls in places like Swargate, Kothrud, Sinhagad Road, and suburbs. An accident in the Warje area led to a traffic jam from Ravet to Chandni Chowk to Kothrud, while slow-moving traffic was reported in Swargate and on Sinhagad Road.

In the evening, snarls occurred in Yerwada and around the airport, with two vehicles breaking down near Tata Garden in Chandan Nagar. Traffic jams also took place on Kesnand Road in Lonikand due to a breakdown of a cement mixer tanker, and an accident on Satara Road brought traffic to a standstill. Pothole-ridden roads in the Mundhwa-Keshav Nagar area have made commuting difficult for residents.

Furthermore, Bhide Bridge and the riverbed road were flooded after water was released from Khadakwasla Dam, leading to traffic congestion on Jangli Maharaj Road and in peth areas. Citizens have called on the Traffic Police and civic authorities to address these issues promptly.

Adding to the traffic woes, non-functional traffic signals on major roads have exacerbated the situation, according to the Traffic Police. The reasons behind congestion from Kinara Chowk to Chandni Chowk include vehicles parked on the road near Vanaz Metro Station, queues forming at the Annabhau Sathe bus stop, and traffic blockages at various intersections.

DCP (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar highlighted the impact of potholed roads on traffic flow, noting that the filling of potholes is being delayed due to ongoing rain. The Traffic Police have identified 554 major potholes at 317 intersections, prompting Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar to urge the civic administration to expedite repairs.
