It’s been a tough month for intoxicated drivers in Pune, with the traffic police cracking down on 865 individuals who were caught driving under the influence since May 21, 2024. The campaign was sparked by a tragic accident in Kalyani Nagar, highlighting the dangers of drunk driving on the city’s roads.

To tackle the problem head-on, the traffic police have ramped up enforcement efforts, especially on weekends. Every Friday and Saturday, major routes to bars and pubs have been closely monitored, leading to a significant number of penalties for those found guilty of driving while drunk.

The numbers speak for themselves, with the Mundhwa traffic department leading the charge with 80 cases, followed closely by Chaturshrungi, Yerawada, Sahakar Nagar, and Vishrambaug. On the flip side, some areas saw fewer penalties, with Lonikand, Shivajinagar, Samarth, Vishrambaug, and Loni Kalbhor recording minimal cases.

The transport department’s actions have been divided into three circles, with Circle One accounting for 325 cases, Circle Two for 304 cases, and Circle Three for 233 cases. The message is clear: drunk driving will not be tolerated in Pune, and those caught breaking the law will face the consequences.
