The Pune Traffic Police are cracking down on wrong-way vehicles in the city, with over 14,000 vehicles targeted in their latest enforcement campaign. The new measure includes impounding vehicles for up to six months as a deterrent to those who break traffic rules.
In addition to wrong-way driving, the Traffic Department is also focusing on triple-seat riding on two-wheelers and drunken driving. Despite taking action against 25,000 vehicles in just 15 days, traffic indiscipline remains a major issue in Pune.
Road accidents have been on the rise due to traffic violations, leading to fatalities and injuries. To address this, the police are stepping up their enforcement efforts and implementing a ban on heavy vehicles during peak hours to reduce the risk on city roads.
Key statistics from October 1 to 16 show a high number of violations, including vehicles traveling in the wrong direction, triple-seat riding on two-wheelers, drunken driving cases, and vehicles impounded.
The ongoing drive by the Pune Traffic Police aims to improve road safety and reduce congestion in the city by enforcing stricter penalties and measures to discipline commuters.
