Hey Pune folks, if you’re planning to hit the central area for some Diwali shopping, you might want to take note of the new traffic rules in place. The Pune Traffic Police have banned four-wheelers in certain key sections of the city to manage the heavy rush during the festive season.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zende, explained that popular shopping areas like Lakshmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Mandai, Shanipar, and Tulshi Baug are experiencing huge crowds, with many shoppers arriving in vehicles and causing chaos with their haphazard parking. To ease the situation, special traffic arrangements have been put in place until 5th November.

So, here are the traffic changes you need to know about:
– If you’re coming via Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, you’ll have to turn at Modern Cafe Chowk and take Jangali Maharaj Road and Tilak Road to reach your destination.
– Swargate folks, take note that you can’t use Bajirao Road. Instead, turn left at Pooram Chowk and go via Tilak Road and Tilak Chowk.
– If you’re heading from Appa Balwant Chowk to Hutatma Chowk, be prepared for possible traffic restrictions. Consider using Bajirao Road as an alternative route.
– Traffic towards Jogeshwari Temple from Futka Buruj Chowk might be halted if needed.
– Shanipar Chowk and Kumthekar Road to Mandai will be closed for traffic.

DCP Zende has advised shoppers to make use of parking facilities at Mandai, Hamalwada in Narayan Peth, and Sane Parking Lot in Narayan Peth when visiting the central area, especially on Lakshmi Road. Stay safe and happy shopping, Pune peeps!
