1. The Transport Department in Pune has recently introduced an online registration system for fully built three-wheeler cargo vehicles and goods vehicles weighing less than 7.5 tonnes. This move allows authorized vehicle dealers to directly register these vehicles online, aiming to reduce dependency on Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).
  2. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has upgraded its “Vehicle 4.0” system to facilitate online registrations in compliance with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ regulations. Previously, online registration was limited to two-wheelers and passenger cars, but now includes specific categories of vehicles like tourist taxis, fully built three-wheeler cargo vehicles, and company-manufactured goods transport vehicles under 7,500 kg.
  3. The new online registration system comes in response to the increasing demand for streamlined, digital-first services in the transportation sector. This initiative is part of the Transport Department’s efforts to make vehicle registration services more efficient and accessible for consumers while reducing administrative bottlenecks.
  4. While online registration is now available for certain categories of vehicles, it is important to note that vehicles not fully constructed or designated for passenger transport will still require physical registration at RTO offices. This change reflects the department’s commitment to modernizing and improving the vehicle registration process for the benefit of all stakeholders.
