Are you a job-seeker eagerly waiting for the recruitment process at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU)? Well, you might have to hold on a little longer. The hiring process for 111 professor vacancies has hit a roadblock due to technical difficulties, causing a six-month delay. But here’s some good news – candidates from Socially and Economically Backward (SEBC) categories will now be allowed to apply, expanding the pool of eligible applicants.

The recruitment drive, which began in December 2023, saw a flood of approximately 5,000 applications as there hadn’t been recent recruitments at SPPU. However, technical issues paused the process for three months during the Lok Sabha elections. The Maharashtra State Government’s introduction of SEBC reservations also prompted changes in the application process. But fear not, SPPU has now sorted out the technical glitches and is moving forward with the verification process. SEBC candidates will soon receive invites to apply online.

Candidates across Maharashtra have been eagerly anticipating this recruitment for half a year now. With the upcoming assembly elections adding another layer of complexity, concerns have arisen about whether the process will be completed before the new regulations come into effect.

Dr Parag Kalkar, Pro Vice-Chancellor at SPPU, reassured applicants by stating, “The scrutiny of applications is ongoing, and SEBC candidates will have the chance to apply. Once all technical aspects are sorted, the interview stage will kick off.” So, hang in there, aspiring professors – your time will come soon!
