Hey there, Pune folks! Did you know that nearly 4,000 waste pickers from all over Pune recently came together for a unique celebration at Golibar Maidan? This event, called ‘SWaCH chi Jatra,’ was organized by SWaCH, a cooperative of waste pickers, and it was a blast!

The Jatra was like a traditional carnival, with cultural performances, games, rangoli competitions, mehendi stalls, food stalls, and even photo booths. The waste pickers really got into the spirit and made the event a huge success.

To add to the fun, there were performances by well-known artists and groups, including Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANIS), Pralay Band, and a rapper named Sai from Dharavi. The event was also attended by important figures like Baba Adhav, Sunil Kamble, and Pune Cantonment Board’s Joint CEO Digvijay Singh.

Baba Adhav even sang a special song with the waste pickers and talked about breaking down caste barriers. Sunil Kamble wished all the women a Happy Women’s Day and promised to support them. Some waste pickers even set up their own food stalls to serve delicious meals to their fellow workers.

A big shoutout to the Pune Cantonment Board and Pune Municipal Corporation for supporting this awesome event. It’s great to see waste pickers being appreciated for their hard work in keeping our city clean!
