Pune has been experiencing some interesting weather patterns lately, with noticeable fluctuations in temperature as the winter season sets in. Since the beginning of November, the city has seen some significant drops in minimum temperatures, giving residents a taste of the cooler weather to come.
On October 25, Pune recorded its first notable low temperature of the season at 16.7°C. Just a few weeks later, on November 7, the temperature dropped even further to 15.2°C, marking a significant dip in the mercury. Although there was a slight rise to between 16-17°C on November 11, the minimum temperature quickly dropped again to 15.9°C, creating a winter ambiance with foggy conditions seen in various parts of the city, particularly during the night and early mornings.
Looking ahead, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the recent temperature drop may not last long. A new low-pressure system forming in the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to bring moisture into Maharashtra, affecting Pune’s weather in the coming days. Starting from November 13, light rainfall is expected in Pune and surrounding areas as the moisture from the Bay of Bengal moves inland. Additionally, the minimum temperature is likely to gradually increase as humidity levels rise due to the incoming moisture, although foggy conditions may persist during early morning and late evening hours.
In addition to Pune, the IMD’s forecast also covers other regions of Maharashtra, including Konkan, Goa, and Marathwada. From November 13 to 15, areas such as Konkan, central Maharashtra, and Marathwada are expected to receive light rain with wind speeds between 30 and 40 km/h. A yellow weather alert has been issued for districts including Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, advising residents to be prepared for potential weather disturbances.
According to Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD Pune, the formation of a low-pressure system in the southwest Bay of Bengal will bring increased moisture to southern Maharashtra, including Pune, from the evening of November 13 onward. Residents can expect partly cloudy skies and mild rainfall over the following 48 hours.
In conclusion, Pune’s weather is expected to remain dynamic in the coming days, with fluctuating temperatures and a chance of rain on the horizon. With a yellow alert in place and changes in temperature expected, residents should be prepared for cooler, foggy mornings and potential rainfall starting from November 13.
