In a heartwarming incident amidst the havoc caused by heavy rains in Pune, a woman in Pimpri-Chinchwad refused to be rescued from her flooded home until her 14 dogs and 1 cat were safe. The heroic efforts of the RESQ Charitable Trust team ensured that all lives, both human and animal, were saved.

Two days ago, the city of Pune experienced relentless rainfall, resulting in severe waterlogging and widespread chaos. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, water levels reached chest height in some areas, leading to the flooding of homes, including that of the animal-loving woman. Trapped by rising waters, she called for rescue, but with an unusual and compassionate condition—her pets must be rescued first.

Upon arrival, the RESQ Charitable Trust team found the woman in a state of distress, surrounded by her 14 dogs and 1 cat, all confined to a room for safety from the encroaching floodwaters. The woman, steadfast in her determination, refused to leave without her animals. The rescue team, understanding the gravity of the situation, prioritised the rescue of the animals.

In a commendable act of bravery, the RESQ team waded through chest-deep water, rescuing each of the 14 dogs and the cat one by one. The entire rescue operation was captured on video and later shared on social media by Neha Panchamiya, drawing widespread praise for the team’s dedication and compassion. The video, posted on X, shows the team navigating through the floodwaters with the animals.

The successful rescue of the pets finally persuaded the woman to leave her home, ensuring all were safe. Meanwhile, the aftermath of the heavy rains left Pune in disarray. The NDRF teams were deployed to assist in rescue operations, and tragically, six to seven people lost their lives due to the flooding. Although the water levels have begun to recede, the damage remains significant, with many families facing the daunting task of recovery.
