Hey Pune folks, good news! The water levels in dams in our district and the Khadakwasla chain are looking pretty good thanks to all the rain we’ve been getting. In fact, the total water storage in all the dams is over 90%, which means our annual water needs are covered.

Specifically, Panshet, Temghar, and Varasgaon dams are all over 90% full, while Khadakwasla Dam is at 75% capacity. Last year at this time, the four dams were only at 79.66% storage, so we’re definitely in a better spot now.

The heavy rainfall we’ve been experiencing is a relief after the water crisis we were facing. It’s still raining in the catchment areas, which is great news for our water supply.

But don’t put away your umbrellas just yet, because more heavy rainfall is predicted across the State. We’ve already seen the havoc it can wreak, with flooding in low-lying areas and disruptions to normal life. An orange alert has been issued for the city, so be prepared for more rain in the coming days.

As for the Khadakwasla chain of reservoirs, Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar dams are all looking good in terms of water storage. The State has seen 138% more rainfall than average in July, and the forecast is for more heavy rain in the next few days.

So, stay safe and dry, Pune, and let’s hope this rain keeps our water supply in good shape for the foreseeable future.
