Child sexual abuse prevention took the spotlight in Pune as the Foundation for Child Protection (FFCP) – Muskaan organized a child safety awareness campaign at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden. The event, held on February 25, 2025, brought together social activists, government officials, and child welfare experts to educate the community on safeguarding children.
Shubhada Ranadive, Founder-Director of FFCP-Muskaan, kicked off the campaign with a keynote address highlighting the alarming rise in child sexual abuse cases and stressing the need for preventive measures. She urged NGOs to unite in taking responsibility for child safety and introduced the campaign’s key initiative of using autorickshaws to spread awareness by displaying helpline numbers.
Professor Anjali Maydeo Ambedkar, a senior social activist, praised FFCP-Muskaan for its efforts in addressing such a critical issue. Manisha Biraris, from the Women and Child Development Department, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to enhancing child safety measures, while members of the Child Welfare Committee emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in protecting children.
To engage the audience, FFCP-Muskaan employees performed a street play focusing on various aspects of child sexual abuse, including different forms of abuse, the vulnerability of both boys and girls, and the significance of empowering children to speak out against abuse.
A highlight of the event was the ribbon-cutting and flag-off ceremony where autorickshaws were launched with messages promoting child safety and displaying FFCP-Muskaan’s helpline number. This move aims to make child protection resources more visible and easily accessible to the citizens of Pune, utilizing autorickshaws as messengers of safety.
