Hey there Pune peeps, it looks like we’re in for a hot one this March! The temperatures are soaring, with Lohgaon hitting a scorching 39.6°C on Monday and only slightly cooling down to 38.6°C on Tuesday. And it’s not just Lohgaon – Rajgurunagar, Talegaon, and Dudulgaon are feeling the heat too, with temperatures reaching as high as 38.5°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that February was the hottest in over a decade, with Shivajinagar clocking in at an average maximum temperature of 34.9°C. And on Tuesday, Shirur took the crown for the hottest spot in Pune, reaching a peak temperature of 37.9°C. Rajgurunagar, Dudulgaon, and Chinchwad were close behind at 37.7°C.

While some areas are sweltering during the day, others are experiencing cooler nights. Talegaon saw the lowest minimum temperature at 13.5°C on Tuesday, while Lohgaon and Chinchwad had warmer nights at 21.4°C and 21.8°C, respectively.

But it’s not just Pune feeling the heat – Solapur was scorching at 39.4°C on Tuesday, with other areas in Maharashtra like Chandrapur, Akola, and Bramhapuri also experiencing intense heat.

Meteorologists are pointing towards the urban heat island effect as the reason for the rising temperatures in urban areas. Concrete structures and lack of vegetation are trapping heat, making places like Chinchwad, Lavale, and Wadgaonsheri hotter than the rest of the city.

While we might see a slight decrease in temperatures in the coming days, IMD scientist S.D. Sanap doesn’t expect a significant drop. So, make sure to stay cool, hydrated, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses as summer seems to have come early to Pune this year.
