Hey Pune pet owners, get ready for some exciting news! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has big plans to open the city’s first dog park, but there’s a tiny hitch – they haven’t gotten the green light from the Central Zoo Authority of India just yet.

Why do we need a dog park, you ask? Well, with more and more people in Pune becoming proud dog parents, there’s a growing need for a safe and fun space for our furry friends to play and socialize. Walking your dog on the streets can be a hassle, not to mention the mess it can create. Complaints and even police cases have been reported due to this issue.

Taking inspiration from other successful dog parks in cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad, the PMC initially planned to set up the dog park next to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj. The location was approved by the PMC commissioner, and a detailed plan with a budget of Rs 7 crore was in place. But alas, the Central Zoo Authority of India had to give the final nod, and they’re taking their sweet time.

While the approval is still pending, the PMC is not giving up. They’re exploring other potential sites across Pune, including one in Baner along the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. These sites range from one to three acres, and could be the future home of the city’s first dog park.

The original plan for the Katraj site included all sorts of amenities for dog owners, from walkways to a grooming parlour to a swimming pool for dogs. If a smaller site is chosen, some of these facilities may have to be adjusted to fit the space.

So hang tight, Pune pet lovers. The dog park might be delayed, but it’s definitely still on the horizon. Keep your fingers crossed for that approval to come through soon!
