If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic in Karvenagar, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken some steps to ease the congestion. The road from Siddhivinayak College to Cummins College has been widened along the Karvenagar riverbank, thanks to a collaborative effort by the Road Department, Anti-Encroachment Department, and Construction Department.
Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s Road Department, explained that the road widening was necessary to address the bottleneck situation that was causing traffic snarls in the area. With sections of the road previously only 8-9 meters wide, expanding it to 12 meters will make a significant difference for commuters.
The route, which connects Rajaram Bridge to the Karvenagar area and extends toward Warje, has long been a headache for drivers due to its narrow lanes. The presence of commercial shops along the road only added to the problem, as patrons would often park their vehicles there, further clogging up the area.
Local residents and public representatives had been vocal about their concerns regarding the traffic issues, prompting the Municipal Corporation to take action. Notices were issued to the relevant parties, and several structures, including parts of the Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha wall, were removed to make way for the road expansion.
Now that the widening is complete, the road should be able to handle higher traffic volumes more smoothly. By resolving land acquisition issues and removing encroachments, the PMC has set the stage for a more efficient flow of vehicles in the area. Cheers to smoother rides ahead in Karvenagar!
