If you’ve been stuck in traffic on the Bopodi-Khadki stretch in Pune, you’ll be pleased to hear that relief is on the way. Civic officials have announced that the main carriageway is set to be widened with the addition of four new lanes, promising smoother travel for commuters.

The delay in widening the road was attributed to some land parcels in the Khadki area that were causing issues, along with ongoing Metro construction. However, with the necessary land now secured, construction is moving forward. According to a senior official from the PMC, about 65% of the work has already been completed, and the main construction is expected to wrap up by the end of October.

Since last August, two-way traffic has been allowed on the Bopodi-Khadki stretch. Regular commuters have been eagerly anticipating the completion of the widening project, as the journey in this area has been quite challenging.

With at least two lanes being added on each side of the road, vehicles will be able to move more quickly, potentially reducing travel times by up to 15 minutes. This will be a welcome change for those who regularly travel between Pune and the industrial areas in Pimpri Chinchwad-Bhosari.

In addition to widening the road, the administration is also working on building safety walls along the stretch. The PMC has even reached out to Maha Metro to expedite the construction of these safety walls in the Khadki area.

However, some commuters have raised concerns about traffic flow at the junction near the Khadki police station on the old Pune-Mumbai highway. They’re calling for measures to reduce waiting times at this busy intersection, where vehicles from Khadki, Shivajinagar, and Range Hills all converge.

Overall, the road widening project on the Bopodi-Khadki stretch is a much-needed improvement that will benefit countless commuters in Pune. With smoother travel and reduced congestion, this project is sure to make a positive impact on the daily lives of many residents.
