On December 11th, Pune’s Laxmi Road will transform into a pedestrian paradise as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) hosts Pedestrian Day. From 10 AM to 5 PM, vehicular traffic will be restricted to promote a pedestrian-friendly environment in one of the city’s busiest areas.
To accommodate this event, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced temporary changes to several bus routes. These alterations aim to ensure smooth public transport operations while prioritizing pedestrian safety and accessibility on Pedestrian Day.
The significance of Pedestrian Day lies in its goal to encourage walking, enhance urban mobility, and reduce vehicular pollution in congested areas like Laxmi Road. This initiative provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy the city’s vibrant spaces without the noise and pollution of vehicles, creating a cleaner and safer urban environment.
During the event, commuters can expect temporary adjustments to bus routes such as numbers 55, 58, and 59, which will take detours via Appa Balwant Chowk, Narayan Peth, and Alka Talkies. Route number 57 towards Pune Railway Station will align with bus number 94, passing through Narayan Peth to Alka Talkies Chowk before continuing on its regular path.
While these changes may require minor adjustments for commuters, they are designed to minimize inconvenience and ensure seamless public transport operations during Pedestrian Day. Commuters are advised to plan ahead, check updated routes and timings, and utilize PMPML’s app for real-time updates on route changes.
By supporting Pedestrian Day and embracing walking on Laxmi Road, residents and visitors can contribute to Pune’s sustainable urban development efforts. This initiative showcases the city’s commitment to creating safer, more inclusive spaces for all, while promoting environmentally-friendly practices and reducing vehicular congestion.
