Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune – a High Court-mandated committee has been put in charge of reevaluating the flood lines of the Mula-Mutha rivers. Why, you ask? Well, concerns have been raised that the current boundaries may not accurately represent the flood risks faced by the residents of Pune.

The flood lines were last updated in 2011 and 2016, but some folks are saying they don’t take into account all the streams that could lead to flooding below the Khadakwasla Dam. Yikes, that’s a pretty big oversight, right?

So, the High Court stepped in and ordered a committee, led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, to take a closer look. The committee is made up of some heavy hitters, including the Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation.

Their first task was to review the previous studies and data from 2011 and 2016. While the Irrigation Department insists they did everything right the first time, the committee thinks it’s better to be safe than sorry. They’re planning to really dig into this reassessment and make sure they get it right.

But here’s the kicker – this study might take longer than originally expected. Experts say it could stretch out over the next six to seven months, instead of the initial four-week deadline. Petitioner Vivek Velankar is a bit worried about potential delays, though. He thinks if everyone really puts their back into it, they could finish on time. Let’s hope they can get it done without dragging their feet. Stay tuned for more updates on this important issue!
