Hey Pune folks, have you heard about the latest initiative by the Pune Municipal Corporation? They are all set to kick off the Punaravartan campaign for 2024 with the aim of promoting eco-friendly Ganesh festival celebrations.

The campaign has already received a thumbs up from various organizations including the eCoexist Foundation, Poornam Ecovision, Swach Coop, Jeevit Nadi, Pune Climate Warriors, The Youth Cosmo, and many more. Even the Pune Municipal Corporation has come forward to support the cause by offering 50 dedicated immersion tank locations to collect clay sludge from the idols.

The success of Pune’s eco-friendly campaign has caught the attention of the Chief Minister Sri Eknath Shinde and DY Chief Minister Sri Ajit Pawar. They have instructed 43 Amrut cities across Maharashtra to replicate the Pune model. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has also endorsed the campaign and included the recycling of clay and soil as one of the criteria for judgment this year.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board’s guidelines, the use of Plaster of Paris Ganesh idols is prohibited. The focus is now on promoting the use of natural clay, which is a non-renewable resource. The Punaravartan campaign aims to collect and reuse clay to save resources and protect the environment.

So far, eight cities in Maharashtra have already launched the Punaravartan campaign, including Pune, PCMC, Thane, and more. Even Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are considering joining the initiative. To spread awareness and knowledge about the campaign, an online training session will be organized for all municipal corporations.

If you want to learn more about the Punaravartan campaign, visit their website or call the helpline managed by Swach Coop at 9765999500. Let’s join hands to make this year’s Ganesh festival celebration eco-friendly and sustainable!
