Pune’s Purandar Airport is set to see accelerated development by 2025, thanks to a high-level review led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Key directives from CM Fadnavis include a comprehensive review of the project, expedited development of infrastructure projects, and strong support from both the State and Central Governments.

One of the major challenges facing the Purandar Airport project is land acquisition, with an estimated cost of ₹5,000 crore. There is also ambiguity over whether the MADC or MIDC will oversee land acquisition and compensations for affected villagers. Despite securing approvals from various authorities, a key conflict remains with the Ministry of Defense’s condition to shut down Pune’s Lohgaon Airport once Purandar Airport is operational.

Delays in the project have been attributed to procedural hurdles and unresolved issues, but with renewed focus under CM Fadnavis’s leadership, stakeholders are hopeful for significant progress by 2025. The Purandar Airport is crucial for enhancing connectivity, driving economic growth, and leveraging its strategic location near major highways and industrial zones.

To overcome challenges such as land acquisition, operational conflicts, and funding, collaborative efforts will be essential. The successful completion of the Purandar International Airport project will not only benefit Pune but also contribute to regional development and economic prosperity.
