This groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Medical Education and Drugs in collaboration with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and BJ Government Medical College, will provide specialized clinical genetic services to children.

The Department of Paediatrics at Sassoon General Hospital is all set to launch a dedicated Clinical Genetics OPD service, catering to pediatric patients suspected of genetic diseases. Operating every Monday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the OPD will offer a range of cutting-edge services, including genetic counseling, patient examinations, and screenings for conditions like thalassemia and sickle cell mutation.

Pregnant mothers will also benefit from specialized genetic screenings in partnership with the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Genetic testing will be carried out at the Gene Health Laboratory in Pune, with further medical tests arranged through the hospital’s medical social workers.

The official inauguration of the Clinical Genetics OPD is on the horizon, with the appointment of a Clinical Geneticist currently in progress.
