Hey there, folks! Today we’ve got some interesting news coming out of Pune and Ahmednagar. So, three days ago, an under-construction bridge over the Bhima River that connects these two districts collapsed. Yikes! The Public Works Department (PWD) has admitted that the bridge was in pretty bad shape and now they’re planning to rebuild it. This bridge was supposed to cost around Rs. 20 crores and was meant to make travel easier between Daund city and Gar village in Shrigonda taluka of Ahmednagar district.

Right now, residents have to rely on boats to get across the river to places like Gar, Arvi, and Ajnuj. The whole point of the bridge was to make it easier for people to get around these villages. But, as we can see, things didn’t quite go according to plan.

The collapse happened because the foundation of the bridge was weak, and the low water levels in the riverbed during summer didn’t help either. People had already raised concerns about the construction quality, pointing out things like deteriorating concrete and tilting pillars.

After the collapse, engineers from the Pune PWD checked out the site and confirmed that the construction quality was pretty shoddy. They’ve decided to tear down the bridge and start over. The Pune District Collector, Dr. Suhas Diwase, stressed the importance of keeping the public informed about what’s going on, especially since people are pretty upset about the whole situation.

So, looks like there’s a lot of work to be done before that bridge is up and running again. Let’s hope the next one stands strong!
