We’re talking about a new double line between Nashik and Sainagar Shirdi, another one between Pune and Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), and the doubling of the Sainagar Shirdi–Puntamba line. And guess what? There’s also talk about a direct railway connection between Pune and Nashik. The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. has been working on this project, but they hit a roadblock when the proposed alignment passed through Narayangaon, home to the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. Looks like they’ll have to find a new route.
Right now, Pune and Nashik are connected via two longer and less efficient routes, but these new projects are set to change that.
