Hey there, folks! Here’s a little recap of what went down at the special symposium organized by the Deccan College Past Students’ Association and the Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography at Deccan College in Pune on 8th January 2025.
The event was held to honor the legendary Sanskrit scholar, Professor Shripad Krishna Belvalkar, on the 58th anniversary of his passing. Professor Belvalkar, born in Narsobachiwadi in Kolhapur district in 1880, was a true trailblazer in the field of Sanskrit studies.
Having obtained multiple degrees from Deccan College and a doctorate from Harvard University, Professor Belvalkar was a prolific writer and researcher, contributing extensively to Sanskrit literature, Indian philosophy, and religion. His influence is still felt today, with his works being widely cited in academic circles.
The symposium featured a lineup of speakers who delved into various aspects of Professor Belvalkar’s work, including his contributions to Indian philosophy, Sanskrit grammar, and the study of Sanskrit drama. The event drew a large crowd of students and faculty members, with even Professor Belvalkar’s grandson in attendance.
