Hey there, folks! Here’s some hot off the press news from Pune for you.
So, a 45-year-old IT professional named Manmohan Tyagi recently found himself in a bit of a pickle. He was sentenced to seven days in the slammer and slapped with a ₹10,000 fine for drunk driving. Ouch! The motor vehicles court in Pune didn’t take too kindly to his actions, especially since this wasn’t his first rodeo. Yep, Tyagi had been convicted for the same offense before. Tsk tsk.
The court didn’t mince words either. Judicial Magistrate First Class Amrit Birajadar made it clear that just a fine wouldn’t cut it this time. Tyagi clearly hadn’t learned his lesson, and it was time for a harsher punishment. The court emphasized that a stricter sentence was necessary to set him straight.
But hey, the magistrate did show a bit of leniency. Tyagi claimed he was the sole breadwinner of his family, and losing his job due to a jail term would be a massive blow. So, instead of a longer sentence, he got off with just seven days behind bars. Phew!
You see, Tyagi had been convicted for drunk driving back in 2018 as well, but a fine back then didn’t change his ways. Fast forward to December 2024, and he was at it again. The Wakad traffic police caught him driving under the influence, filed a chargesheet, and summoned him to court.
On February 7, 2025, Tyagi owned up to his mistake, begged for mercy, and expressed his worries about losing his job. Despite his pleas, the court stood firm on the need for a tougher punishment. And just like that, Tyagi was whisked off to Yerawada Central Jail after paying up the fine.
And that’s a wrap, folks! Stay safe on the roads and remember, don’t drink and drive. Until next time, this is your friendly neighborhood journalist signing off.
