If you’ve been stuck in traffic on Nagar Road near Shastrinagar Chowk lately, you’re not alone. The recent traffic diversion has left many commuters frustrated and worried about safety. Since the entry to Kalyaninagar was shifted approximately 700 meters ahead, there have been reports of near-misses and minor accidents.

Without any prior notice, the Pune Traffic Branch blocked the original entry to Kalyaninagar, forcing drivers to take a longer route and make a U-turn near Aga Khan Palace. Unfortunately, this new setup has led to some risky situations, especially with vehicles speeding towards Yerawada from Ramwadi.

Some residents have criticized the lack of warning signs at the U-turn, with one person recounting a close call with a speeding cab. Another resident questioned the reasoning behind the change, noting that it has caused congestion on both sides of the road.

In response, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende defended the decision, stating that it was part of a trial to reduce traffic congestion on Nagar Road. He explained that the new system eliminates the need for a right turn at Shastrinagar, allowing drivers to continue straight, take a U-turn, and then turn left into Kalyaninagar.

Zende also mentioned that similar arrangements have been made up to Chandannagar, with plans to extend the setup further. The traffic department is closely monitoring the situation and will make adjustments as needed to improve road safety. So, if you’re a regular commuter in the area, keep an eye out for any changes that may be coming your way.
