Residents in Mohamadwadi and Undri areas of Pune took to the streets today to protest the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for neglecting basic civic amenities in their neighborhoods. Despite being integrated into the PMC in 1997 and 2017 respectively, residents have been deprived of essential services such as water supply, drainage systems, developed roads, parks, and recreational facilities.

During the protest, residents demanded that the PMC address these issues and prioritize the development of civic infrastructure in their area. Many residents expressed frustration over paying high property taxes without seeing any improvements in the quality of life in their neighborhoods.

Long-time resident Sachin Punekar pointed out the lack of progress in the area, stating that despite paying higher taxes, there has been no return on their investment in terms of services. Suniel Iyer, another resident, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the continued absence of basic facilities like water and roads.

Residents like Sumit Morankar and Durga K shared their struggles with ongoing challenges related to water supply and streetlights, questioning why the PMC allows more construction without providing necessary amenities first.

The protest shed light on the gap between taxes paid and services provided, with residents feeling frustrated by the lack of improvements in the area despite increased tax contributions. The event serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by residents in rapidly expanding urban areas without adequate infrastructure to support the community.
