Pune’s Gokhale Nagar area around the Shaheed Tukaram Ombale Ground was transformed into a clean and congestion-free zone on Friday for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s poll rally. The usual kiosks, handcarts, and vendors were nowhere to be seen as the police and crane were present on the road, ensuring smooth traffic flow.

Residents of Gokhale Nagar were delighted with the temporary clean-up and requested the CM to make regular visits to maintain the cleanliness and prevent traffic issues caused by illegal constructions and encroachments. The area, located at the foothills of Vetal Tekdi, has a pleasant atmosphere, but the encroachments have been causing parking problems and traffic snarls.

The civic administration sprang into action on Friday morning, removing all encroachments, cleaning the roads, and increasing police presence to maintain order during the rally. The efforts paid off, with PMPML buses running smoothly and passengers having ample space at bus stops.

However, as soon as the rally ended, vendors returned to their spots, and the familiar scene of encroachments and congestion reappeared on Saturday. Local residents are demanding regular clean-ups and enforcement of anti-encroachment laws to keep their area free from clutter and traffic jams.

The one-day transformation of Gokhale Nagar has sparked hope among residents for a cleaner and more organized neighborhood, urging authorities to take action regularly to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the area.
