Residents of Kalyaninagar, Baner, Pashan, Vimannagar, and nearby areas recently came together to address growing concerns about the impact of pubs, bars, and commercial establishments on their communities. The meeting, organized by Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar, aimed to shed light on issues such as noise pollution, illegal operations, and public safety.
Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni spearheaded the discussions, joined by officials from various departments, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the civic building permission and encroachment divisions, the excise department, and the fire department.
During the meeting, residents expressed frustration over the proliferation of bars and pubs operating without proper permits. Monica Sharma, a Kalyaninagar resident, highlighted the challenges faced by senior citizens, students, and families due to noise pollution and unauthorized commercial activities. She called for authorities to crack down on illegal rooftop bars, unapproved land use changes, and businesses operating without clearances.
Concerns were also raised about open alcohol consumption near schools and temples, incidents of harassment, drunk driving, and illegal encroachments in public spaces. Aditya Patil, another resident, stressed the importance of regulatory action to maintain peace in residential areas.
MP Medha Kulkarni reassured residents that steps would be taken to address the issues raised during the meeting. She promised a thorough review of licenses issued to establishments causing disruptions and pledged to restore order and safety in residential neighborhoods.
Officials present at the meeting acknowledged the residents’ grievances and committed to intensifying enforcement measures to tackle unauthorized operations and uphold public order. Residents left the meeting hopeful that their concerns would be addressed promptly and effectively.
