Hey there, Pune folks! It looks like we’re in for a wet and wild ride with the recent heavy rains causing all five dams that supply water to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to reach full capacity. That’s right, Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, Temghar, and Pavana Dams are all filled to the brim.

The Water Resources Department is not taking any chances and has issued a warning for residents living near the Mula-Mutha and Pavana rivers to be on high alert for potential flooding. The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division is also asking Pune residents to keep a close eye out as the Khadakwasla Dam is nearly overflowing at 90.39% capacity.

With the IMD predicting more heavy rainfall in the coming days, there’s a good chance we’ll see some significant water discharge into the rivers. Authorities are advising citizens to steer clear of riverbeds, especially in the Pune Municipal and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal areas, and to move any belongings or animals to safer ground.

So, if you live in a low-lying area, it’s best to stay away from the riverbeds altogether to avoid any potential dangers. Let’s all stay safe and dry as we weather this storm together!
