Hey Pune folks, get ready for some exciting news coming your way! The city known for its traffic jams is about to get a major facelift with the construction of an outer Ring Road around Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is all set to kick off the project in the second week of February.
This 170-km long, six-lane road is expected to be completed by June 2027 with an estimated cost of Rs 42,000 crore. The Ring Road will serve as a bypass for heavy vehicles coming from Nashik, Ahilya Nagar, Solapur, and Satara, heading towards Mumbai and vice versa. This will significantly reduce the number of heavy vehicles entering the two cities and ease traffic congestion.
The Ring Road is divided into western and eastern parts, each with its own set of sections and tunnels. The project includes the construction of big bridges over Khadakwasla Dam and main roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Public transport will also be enhanced with the addition of Metro and BRTS routes along the bypass.
So, get ready to say goodbye to those long hours stuck in traffic jams and hello to a smoother commute on the Ring Road. Let’s look forward to a more efficient and hassle-free transportation system in Pune!
