Hey there, Pune residents! Exciting news coming your way about the Sadhu Vaswani Bridge near St Mira’s College in Koregaon Park. The demolition of this old bridge has officially reached 20% completion, with the necessary approvals from the Railways and Traffic Police in hand.
According to Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, the entire project is expected to take another year and a half, with the new flyover targeted for completion by January 2026. This is great news for commuters as the old bridge had become a safety hazard due to its deteriorating condition.
After facing delays in obtaining approvals, the PMC finally got the green light in May 2024 to begin demolition. Work started in June, and the section near Koregaon Park has already been cleared. Foundation work for the new bridge is underway, but progress on the remaining portion is awaiting a block schedule from the railway administration.
The PMC has paid the required fee to the railways for the block, which is crucial for completing demolition on the railway side within a 52-day timeframe. Once the railway schedule is received, progress is expected to speed up, with permission granted by the police traffic branch to continue work on the bridge.
So, hang in there, Puneites! A smoother and safer commute is on the horizon with the new Sadhu Vaswani Bridge expected to be up and running by early 2026.
