1. After facing numerous delays, the construction of the Sadhu Vaswani flyover in Pune is finally set to begin, with the relocation of 121 slum units starting this week.
  2. The aging Sadhu Vaswani flyover has been a crucial route for commuters for over 50 years, but its deteriorating condition has posed a risk to traffic safety.
  3. The Pune Municipal Corporation had planned to demolish and rebuild the bridge to address the city’s traffic issues, but the project was stalled due to the need to relocate slum residents living in the construction area.
  4. The demolition work has already started on one side of the bridge, but a slum with 121 units near the Circuit House had been blocking progress until now.
  5. The relocation process has finally begun, allowing for the demolition of the remaining structures along the bridge’s route and the construction of the new flyover to move forward.
  6. The slum residents will be moving to Slum Rehabilitation Authority buildings in Hadapsar, marking a significant milestone for the project.
  7. The construction of the new flyover is estimated to cost around Rs. 83 crore and will be carried out in stages, with the first phase already underway.
  8. The municipal corporation is optimistic that the project will now progress rapidly, with the new bridge expected to be completed in the coming months.
