1. Nine months have passed since the approval was given to install hi-tech CCTV cameras on the premises of the Pune Railway Station, but no progress has been made so far. Questions are being raised about the delay in strengthening security at the facility.
  2. With 72 trains originating from the Pune Railway Station and 200 passing through it, the number of passengers, especially youths from other states seeking employment opportunities, is on the rise. However, the inadequate security measures on the premises are a cause for concern.
  3. Incidents of thefts, mobile phone snatchings, and even more serious crimes like kidnapping and sexual abuse have been reported at the Pune Railway Station in the past, highlighting the urgent need for improved security infrastructure.
  4. Currently, only 74 CCTV cameras are operational at the station, some of which were installed years ago. Plans to install 46 new ultra-modern cameras have been in the pipeline for the past two years, but no concrete action has been taken yet.
  5. In light of the security issues at the Pune Railway Station, passengers are advised to exercise caution when seeking help from strangers on the premises to avoid being misled or cheated.
  6. With a daily footfall of 1.5 lakh passengers and numerous trains passing through and originating from the station, the delay in installing additional CCTV cameras raises concerns about the safety and security of commuters at one of Pune’s busiest transport hubs.
