Get ready to dig a little deeper into your pockets for salon and bakery services in Maharashtra starting January 2025. The Maharashtra Association of Salon and Beauty Parlour Operators has announced a significant 20%-30% increase in salon service charges, while bakery products have already seen a price rise effective December 2024.

Salon services for both men and women will see substantial cost increases to cover rising operational expenses such as staff wages, shop rents, and product prices. Men’s services like haircuts and shaving will increase by Rs 26 to Rs 40 and Rs 14 to Rs 20, respectively. Women’s services, including haircuts, facials, and hair coloring, are expected to rise by Rs 600 to Rs 1,500 on average.

The price hikes are driven by factors such as increased living costs, inflation, higher prices for beauty products, and financial recovery efforts post-COVID-19. Prasad Chavan, president of the salon operators’ association, emphasized the need for these adjustments to ensure sustainability.

With 30,000 salons in Pune city and an additional 10,000 in rural Pune, the price hike will affect a significant customer base. Business owners stress that these increases are necessary to offset challenges like soaring shop rents and operational expenses.

Simultaneously, bakery products have already seen a price revision due to skyrocketing input costs like refined flour and oil. Prices for items like khari, butter toast, biscuits, and bread products have increased by 20%-33%.

These price increases matter for consumers as salon services and bakery items are daily staples for residents, impacting their daily expenses. The industries have been struggling to recover post-pandemic, and rising inflation further adds to their challenges.

As residents of Maharashtra adapt to these higher prices, they will need to budget accordingly for essential services and products. While the price hikes may be unavoidable for businesses to remain sustainable, they highlight the broader issues of inflation and its impact on daily life.
