Hey there, folks! Looks like Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is having some trouble in the research department. Despite the importance of research in rankings, the university is struggling to provide funds for research projects.

In the budget, SPPU had set aside Rs 3.5 crore for college-level research, but only Rs 2.26 crore 6 thousand 649 has been distributed so far. The budget session is coming up on March 22, and the Management Council members are getting grilled with questions about where the money is going.

According to the council members, the university received 127 research projects in the last financial year, and a grant of Rs. 10 lakh 28 thousand 500 was approved for 10 professors under the Aspire Research Mentorship Program scheme. The university had allocated Rs 4.9 crore for research grants in the financial year 2024-25, but it seems like the money isn’t being fully utilized.

There are currently 264 proposals pending approval for Ph.D. guidance, with the majority coming from the Science branch. Looks like SPPU has some work to do in getting those research projects off the ground.

Overall, it seems like SPPU needs to step up its game when it comes to funding research projects. Let’s hope the budget session sheds some light on how they plan to make the most of their resources. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
