The weather department has put Pune on high alert as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected in the city and nearby areas. To ensure the safety of students, schools and colleges in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad will remain closed on Thursday. District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase issued an official notice regarding the holiday.

The heavy rains have already caused chaos in the city, with reports of trees uprooted and waterlogging in various areas. Traffic jams have become a common sight as the downpour shows no signs of stopping.

The IMD has predicted that five districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, will face similar weather conditions in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Pune district, indicating a higher risk of severe weather.

In light of the current situation and the forecast for tomorrow, the district administration has decided to prioritize public safety by declaring a holiday for all educational institutions in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Stay safe and stay indoors, Puneites!
