With heavy rainfall and thunderstorms hitting Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, schools and colleges in the region have been declared closed on September 26, 2024. The decision was made by Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase to ensure the safety of students in light of the forecasted adverse weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rain and a yellow alert for ongoing heavy rainfall in the area. On September 25, Pune saw 124 mm of rainfall, which is about 18 percent of the city’s annual average rainfall. The IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas.

Authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions and stay vigilant during these significant weather events. The monsoon withdrawal from Maharashtra is expected to be delayed until October, with more rainfall predicted in the coming days.
