In a shocking turn of events, another doctor from Sassoon General Hospital in Pune has been suspended for abandoning a destitute patient in the Mental Hospital area in Yerawada. This comes after a resident doctor was already suspended in connection to the incident.

The hospital’s Dean, Dr. Eknath Pawar, took action after a probe committee report revealed that the doctor in question had assisted the previously suspended doctor in abandoning the 32-year-old patient from the Orthopaedics Department. The patient was left alone at midnight on July 22, sparking outrage.

Following the report from the committee, a first-year junior resident doctor from the Orthopaedic Department has also been suspended until further notice. Both doctors have been recommended for rustication from the college and hostel by BJ Medical College.

CCTV footage showed the patient being escorted out of the building by the doctors, with no other staff members involved. Department Head Dr. Girish Bartakke claimed to be unaware of the incident and was not implicated in the case.

In response to the situation, Dr. Eknath Pawar stated, “According to the report submitted by the internal committee, it was found that one more junior resident doctor had helped abandon the destitute patient. He has been suspended from the hospital and also from all educational programmes till further orders. Both the doctors have been rusticated from the college and the hostel for one term. A report, in this regard, has been sent to the Director and Commissioner of the State Medical Education Department.”
