Hey Pune folks, it’s been a tough day for the city as severe flooding has wreaked havoc in many areas. Water levels in places like Sinhagad Road have reached up to two to three feet, leaving many citizens stranded and in need of assistance. School holidays have been announced across Pune due to the widespread inundation caused by the heavy rains.

The decision to release water early from the Khadakwasla dam has only made matters worse, as water has now entered numerous homes. Pune’s Guardian Minister, Ajit Pawar, addressed concerns during a press conference, explaining that a red alert was issued for heavy rain in the region.

With over 8 inches of rain in the upper reaches and about five inches in Pune, the dam quickly filled up, forcing officials to release water to avoid further flooding. The situation is expected to worsen as water continues to flow downstream towards areas like Bund Garden and Daund.

Residents are advised to stay indoors and remain vigilant, as landslides have also been reported in some areas. NDRF rescue teams are on standby across the state, ready to assist those in need. Unfortunately, there have been some tragic incidents, including deaths from electric shock in the Deccan area and landslides in Tamhini Ghat and Lavasa.

The administration is closely monitoring the situation and urges everyone to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Stay safe, Pune!
