The results of the recent elections in Purandar have left many surprised as former minister Vijay Shivtare of Shiv Sena emerged victorious against tough competition. Despite facing off against Indian National Congress MLA Sanjay Jagtap and NCP candidate Sambhaji Zende, Shivtare managed to secure a win with a comfortable margin of 24,188 votes.
Many had predicted that Zende, running from his own alliance, would split the votes and make it a challenging race for Shivtare. However, Zende failed to gather more than 50,000 votes, ultimately leading to Shivtare’s success. Even with Jagtap facing significant anti-incumbency, particularly regarding the delay in the approval of the new international airport in Purandar, it was Shivtare who led from the start and clinched the victory.
With a total of 4.51 lakh voters in the constituency and a turnout of 60.02%, Shivtare managed to win the trust of the people and secure his position as their leader for the next five years. This unexpected turn of events has certainly shaken up the political landscape in Purandar.
