The day started early with the Trustee, Punit Balan, and Janhavi Dhariwal Balan worshipping the beloved Ganpati idol and performing the ‘Aarti.’ The atmosphere was charged with emotion as a group of transgenders known as ‘Shikhandi’ performed a devotional chanting session.
The highlight of the day was the grand procession with Bappa seated on a beautifully decorated chariot. The streets came alive with the sounds of Dhol-Tasha ensembles and traditional martial displays. This year, the festival saw a change in tradition as the idol’s chariot was pulled by mandal office-bearers, volunteers, and the Balans themselves.
The procession wound its way through the city, passing key landmarks and drawing large crowds. Kailash Kher then performed the ceremonial installation of the idol, much to the delight of the cheering audience. The day was filled with traditional performances, including Dhol-Tasha groups paying their respects and a special screening of ‘Gajvandana.’
Punit Balan expressed his joy at the successful start of the festival, inviting all devotees to seek Bappa’s blessings. Kailash Kher, on the other hand, felt honored to be a part of the installation ceremony, praying for the nation’s well-being.
