Hey there, Pune folks! Here’s a quick update on what’s been happening in our city during the heavy rains over the past couple of days:

1. Tragic Incidents: Unfortunately, six people lost their lives during the heavy rains, with three succumbing to electrocution in Deccan Gymkhana. In Mulshi, one person was killed in a landslide, while two others drowned in separate incidents in the Katraj and Ashtabhuja areas. Additionally, 15 domestic animals also perished in the inclement weather.

2. Landslides and Rescue Operations: Landslides were reported in the Mulshi area in Tamhini Ghat and Lavasa. In response, two teams of the NDRF and the Army were deployed for rescue operations to help those affected by the natural disasters.

3. Flooding and Discharge Monitoring: The heavy rainfall led to excessive flooding in Pune city and the surrounding district. The Mutha river overflowed due to heavy discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam, causing flooding in low-lying areas along the river. District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase mentioned that the discharge from the dam is being closely monitored to prevent further flooding.

4. Dam Updates: The water resources department shared that around 2.5 TMC storage was added within a day in the Khadakwasla chain of dams. In response, approximately 1 TMC water was released from the dam, leading to floods in Pune. Around 4,000 citizens were evacuated to safer locations to ensure their safety.

5. Precautionary Measures: Officials have reduced the discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam to 13,981 cusecs, with the possibility of changes as needed. The discharge from the Lonavala Dam and the Kasarsai Dam has also been adjusted, with citizens urged to take necessary precautions in case of further rainfall.

Stay safe, Pune! Let’s all work together to navigate through these challenging times and support one another in any way we can.
