Hey Pune folks, exciting news for you! The Smart City Company is gearing up to take charge of maintaining and managing the Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS) signals in Pune for the next five years. A formal proposal has been sent to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and the final decision will be made during an upcoming board meeting.

With the central government announcing plans to phase out the Smart City project, there were concerns about the future of initiatives like the ATMS system. However, the deadline has been extended to March 2025, providing some temporary relief.

Initially, there were talks of transferring the ATMS system to the city’s traffic police, but they declined. This led to discussions about the PMC taking over, but now the Smart City Company has stepped in to manage the system for the next five years, easing uncertainties.

The ATMS system, aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune, monitors vehicle movement and speed at key intersections. It was set up at a cost of ₹102 crore, with annual maintenance and repair costs amounting to ₹11 crore, which the PMC will pay to the Smart City Company.

In a recent development, the Pune Police Commissionerate suggested that the company maintaining the ATMS should obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the police for payments from the PMC. However, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. clarified that no such NOC is needed, as the agreement is solely between the municipal corporation and the Smart City Company.

So, it looks like the future of the ATMS system in Pune is secure for now, thanks to the Smart City Company stepping up to the plate. Keep an eye out for more updates on this exciting development!
